Following is a letter and invitation to the upcoming MFA Actors Showcases, which will be Monday, May 4, 2009 and include a reception open to CUE members and other Columbia alumni working in entertainment. Click here for the full invite and RSVP information...

To My Fellow SoA Alumni,

As a graduate of the Columbia University School of the Arts MFA Acting Program, I have been fortunate enough to have had many extraordinary opportunities to practice the craft for which I was trained. Recently, I have returned to Columbia to help develop the professional preparation of the current third-year Acting class and to work with my fellow alumni to provide further opportunities in this endeavor.

As many of you know, the 2009 MFA Los Angeles Actors Showcase represents a critical juncture in the professional lives of these young artists.

Thanks everyone who attended and to the School of the Arts Dean's office for sponsoring this event. More info and pictures soon...

Date: Wednesday, June 4th
Time: 7:30 pm

Location: 86 Speakeasy
6533 Hollywood Blvd.
Los Angeles, CA 90028
(Enter on Hudson - Club 86 is underground! - map)

The subterranean 86 is one of the hottest new spots in town – a former speakeasy, newly recreated.* Come get reconnected with CUE at this Hollywood underground. Thanks to the amazing generosity of the Columbia University School of the Arts Dean's Office, we've reserved it just for you with open bar and free food. We intend to make this evening as memorable as last summer's party while welcoming festival participants.

ImageGet the VIP treatment, come have a Whiskey Sour, hear and create the buzz about CUE, your first official Columbia alumni entertainment organization.

On-site valet parking $10; street and lot parking available nearby including $5.50 parking at 1718 Cherokee Ave. (2 blocks west of Hudson).

Click on the link to RSVP. This is an industry event, so please select a "plus one" only if you are bringing a significant other or someone interested in networking with CUE.

Image*Try to picture a subterranean, swanky speak easy, cross it with the Pirates of the Caribbean ride, add a dash of old Hollywood….better yet, don’t even try picturing it, because even your SOA-enhanced imagination won’t do 86 justice! But come hang out in the stage lounge, pull up to one of 2 bars that look like they’ve been lit by one of the better gaffers in town, or wax exclusive relaxing in one of the private rooms, including the new Goldwyn Room. Even smokers will feel at home, as 86 provides interior smoking breezeway lounges (with one-way mirror...non-smokers will brave the smoke to see it).

CUE Holiday Party Brings Broadway flavor to Hollywood Boulevard!
Saturday, 22 December 2007 05:46
ImageAs anyone who made it to this year’s CUE/NYU party can tell you - our first holiday party was a hit! With over 400 RSVPs, the guests in attendance brought plenty of holiday cheer to the evening – and Memphis turned out to be a perfect venue. Alumni and friends from both Columbia and NYU were able to meet and mingle throughout the evening – creating an excellent opportunity for networking. All around, it was a great night to meet new people from both schools, and see old friends as well. Brainstorming for future CUE/Tisch West event are in the works!

Many thanks to the people who helped put this event together, include Anthony Agoni and the CUAASC board; our CUE event team – NaRhee Ahn, Hersch Faber, and especially Scott Foster; Tisch West’s team – and especially James Latham; Micky Hohl for taking pictures; Jeff Gund for helping with the venue; and the team at Memphis for making the evening go smoothly; and to all of the people who showed up to make the night a success!

ImageSo cheers to 2007 – and CUE is inspired to bring you more industry networking events in 2008.

CUE goes 2 for 2; Second event a hit!

ImageColumbia University alumni gathered in Studio City for an end of the summer party this past September. With gourmet pizza and brew providing a little New York atmosphere and CUE Board Member Hersch Faber and his wife Davenie generously hosting at their beautiful home, this night proved to be an excellent networking event for CUE members and guests.

Many of the University's different schools and programs were represented at CUE's brainstorming and information session, including Columbia College (CC), Barnard College (BC), the Law School, the Business School, the School of the Arts, the Graduate School of Journalism (the J School), and the School of Engineering and Applied Science (SEAS). The open discussion benefited from a wide array of career perspectives, ranging from alumni who have worked in the entertainment industry for years to recent graduates just making their way to Los Angeles as well as the range of years from the seventies to the present.
